2018-19: Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances

The 2018-19 campaign aimed to raise awareness of dangerous substances in the workplace, the risks associated with them and how to prevent harm to workers.

It promoted the hierarchy of prevention and had a special focus on particularly vulnerable groups of workers. Moreover — as part of EU-OSHA’s continuing commitment to the Roadmap on Carcinogens — the campaign also looked specifically at managing workplace exposure to substances that cause cancer. It also increased awareness of relevant EU legislation and provided businesses with practical guidance on how to ensure compliance.

Thousands of organisations from across Europe and beyond participated in events and activities, many of which were organised by the campaign partners: national focal points and the 90 official campaign partners organised hundreds of events and activities, all of which were actively promoted by the campaign’s 35 media partners. Highlights included the European Week for Safety and Health at Work and the Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards, which encouraged the exchange of knowledge and endorsed innovative examples of managing dangerous substances.
