Mission Statement

The Societal Impact of Pain (SIP) platform is a multi-stakeholder platform which aims to raise awareness of pain, and to change pain policies. SIP is a joint initiative between the European Pain Federation (EFIC) and Pain Alliance Europe (PAE).

The platform provides opportunities for discussion for health care professionals, pain advocacy groups, politicians, healthcare insurance providers, representatives of health authorities, regulators, and budget holders.

The objectives of SIP are to:

• Raise awareness of the relevance of the impact that pain has on our societies, health and economic systems.

• Exchange information and share best practices across all member states of the European Union.

• Develop and foster European-wide policy strategies & activities for an improved pain care in Europe.

Our campaign pledge

The Societal Impact of Pain (SIP) Platform, is delighted to contribute to the 2023-2025 Healthy Workplaces Campaign and support the ‘Safe and Healthy Work in the Digital Age’ theme. Pain and work are closely related, with good work having positive effects with regards to pain management and mental health. Therefore, at a time where digitalisation is key, SIP will develop useful activities and resources for all, but especially targeted at healthcare professionals and patients, focused on raising awareness on the impact that good work and work adaptation, has on people living with pain and all, in the current digital era.

Chair of SIP

"Safe and healthy work in the digital age" is essential, not only as a preventive measure, but also for people living with pain. Healthy work is good for pain and mental health, and this is important on both an individual and societal level. The Societal Impact of Pain (SIP) Platform is excited to continue an already successful collaboration with EU-OSHA, especially at a time when digitalisation opens up great opportunities for the benefit of all."
