Unpacking the effects of musculoskeletal disorders on maintenance workers
The largest European maintenance congress- EuroMaintenance, organized by an official partner of the Healthy Workplaces campaign- European Federation of National Maintenance Societies (EFNMS), together with the Dutch Maintenance Society, will take place from 17 to 19 April 2023 in Rotterdam. Among the many activities foreseen within the “Safety” theme, the congress will host a workshop exploring the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) with the use of EU-OSHA's body and hazard mapping guidance tool.

Highlighted by the Healthy Workplaces Lighten the Load campaign, MSDs affect about three in every five workers in the European Union, and the maintenance industry personnel is not an exception. To investigate the consequences of these disorders for maintenance workers, the workshop, consisting of two sessions, will be focusing on body mapping of the work-related MSDs and symptoms, as well as the workplace hazard mapping.
The participants, split up into smaller mixed groups (men and women), will be given a specific flipchart body diagram and a questionnaire to fill out. The gathered data will be then evaluated and corresponding results will be outlined during the event, providing valuable insights into the impact, as well as possible prevention and management of MSDs within the maintenance sector.
