Tackling the effects of prolonged sedentary work

Physical inactivity and prolonged sitting at work have been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity and excess mortality. Prolonged sitting can also result in lower back problems and other MSDs.

On 25 May, the Swedish focal point holds a 2-hour webinar to discuss the effects of sedentary work and how to counteract them. Speakers discuss the difference between active and inactive sitting and standing and how you can counteract too much sitting still during the day, regardless of your job role.

The importance of taking short movement breaks is then highlighted and insight is given on what kind of breaks give the best results. The effects of prolonged sitting on our mental state and abilities are also underlined. Finally, workplace design and the effects of ergonomics are discussed in relation to offices that are most successful in counteracting sedentary working.

Taking place online, the webinar is particularly targeted at representatives from large Swedish companies.
