Improving working conditions in the cleaning sector

Cleaning workers often have poor working conditions, are low paid, work long and/or unsociable hours and are at risk of recurring back problems, stress and job dissatisfaction. Following on from the  ‘Day of Cleaning’ event, which took place on 15 June, the discussion around how working conditions in the cleaning sector can be improved continues.

To further elaborate on possible solutions, the Austrian focal point is hosting an online seminar to discuss implementing cleaning work during regular office hours to avoid the negative health effects of working early in the morning or late at night.

Taking place online, the seminar includes representatives from workers' councils, cleaning companies, clients of cleaning companies and employer and employee representatives.

Speakers:

  • Claudia Glawischnig, abz*Austria
  • Dr. Karin Sardadvar, Vienna University of Economics and Business
  • Julia Steurer, The Austrian Labour Inspectorate
  • Martina Ehrendorfer, FairPlus Service
  • Nadja Schefzig, Manager at Kompetenzkreis
