Ergonomics Experts Analyse Keys to Healthy Ageing
The last 1 June, the Ergonomics Association of the Comunidad Valenciana (ErgoCV) celebrated the 6th Edition of the Ergonomics and Psychosociology Conferences focused on the keys to reach a healthy ageing at work.
The last 1 June, the Ergonomics Association of the Comunidad Valenciana (ErgoCV) celebrated the 6th Edition of the Ergonomics and Psychosociology Conferences focused on the keys to reach a healthy aging at work.
The event was attended by a large number of experts from the Instituto Asturiano de Prevención de Riesgos Laborales, the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia (IBV) and the Centro Nacional de Condiciones de Trabajo (CNCT) of the Instituto Nacional de Seguridad e Higiene en el Trabajo (INSHT).
Carmen Soler, president of ErgoCV, said that this initiative is part of the campaign of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work "Healthy Workplaces for All Ages". In this sense, ergonomists from ErgoCV can reach knowledge and practical experiences to empower organizations to find active work on healthy aging issues through these conferences.
Thus, Celia Coll, from Laboratorios Quinton, has emphasized in her speech that "SMEs can also have a healthy business model; Laboratorios Quinton has developed more than 80 measures, mainly oriented towards the conciliation, wellness, health and happiness. The most important thing is to work day by day active listening, diversity and adaptation to get a continuous change to provide a necessary balance with the work team."
Mercedes Sanchis, Head of Innovation in Occupational Safe and Health Promotion at IBV, has indicated the importance of raising awareness of companies and adapting jobs, taking into account the functional capabilities of workers, with the aim of achieving a healthy, active and higher performance of human resources. It means happier employees, greater profitability and so, companies that are more competitive.
Mª Dolores Solé, head of the Community of Occupational Medicine at the Centro Nacional de Condiciones de Trabajo at the Instituto Nacional de Higiene y Salud en el Trabajo, highlighted that "the essential elements, key for developing good management of age at work (linked to the person, environment and individual culture) have been adressed”.
Elena Rodríguez, head of the Occupational Health Service of the Instituto Asturiano de Prevención de Riesgos Laborales, has highlighted some brief videos (one minute or twenty seconds) about the management of the age. These supports deal with interesting topics such as the aging and how it is addressed, not only in Spain but also in Europe. This issue has become a milestone for the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, mainly related about how to manage working conditions for workers over 55 and how to create multi-age teams.
She has also highlighted another video about health promotion at companies; undoubtedly, they are a great prescriber of these conditions along with other health agencies dedicated also to it.
On the other hand, David Rodríguez, HSE Manager at Ford Spain, has pointed out that "day by day solutions are sought to increase the health of workers" and has described the process of stamping pieces and how they have improved it with the aim of improving working conditions.
Antonio Díaz, vice president of the Asociación Española de Servicios de Prevención Laboral (AESPLA) and director of the Asociación de Prevención de Accidentes (APA), has commented that during the conference day he has showed a pilot project that tries to provide tools to employees to promote and improve their musculoskeletal state. "It is a project that makes available sports coaches to employees, offering exercises to boost their health status. The aim of this project, with voluntary participation, is to get that workers are in the most optimal conditions to perform their work", said Díaz.
The aim of the conference day was to highlight the need to promote sustainable work, to encourage policies and programs to ensure safety and health of workers, taking into account demographic changes and the prolongation of working life. It has served to make known Good Practices and successful cases that serve as a model and example for their implementation in other companies.
