Addressing psychosocial risks for older workers: policy and practice in action
The modern world of work is continuously changing, and there are varying implications for different population groups. As Europe’s workforce ages, the psychosocial health and wellbeing of older working people must be protected and supported. Official partner of the Healthy Workplaces campaign, EuroHealthNet, organised a webinar on 25 October 2022 that examined how this can be addressed by the public health and employment sectors.
The event was accompanied by a new policy brief exploring strategies to promote workplace wellbeing. It was also an ideal opportunity to mark the European Week for Safety and Health at Work, which took place from 24-28 October. Addressing psychosocial risks will also play an important role in protecting the musculoskeletal health of older workers, as explored in detail during the Healthy Workplaces Lighten the Load campaign.
Speakers included representatives from the European Commission Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL), the World Health Organisation European Region, AGE Platform Europe, and EuroHealthNet. The role of occupational psychological health and wellbeing as a determining factor in the healthy and active ageing of older workers, more resilient and agile businesses, economies, and society at large was discussed, as well as looking at effective policy frameworks and good practice.
