Positive mental health is key to active and healthy ageing

On 8 February, EU-OSHA took part in an event in the European Parliament to discuss the importance of active ageing and why it matters to mental health. The event was organised by Mental Health Europe (Official Campaign Partner of the Healthy Workplaces for All Ages campaign) together with the Member of the European Parliament, Deirdre Clune (Ireland, EPP).

EU-OSHA was represented by Brenda O’Brien who insisted on the need to focus on healthy workplaces for all ages and called for every employer to assess the risk factors for health in the workplace including psychosocial risks factors.

Experts emphasized the importance of developing age-friendly policies and integrated strategies in collaboration with organisations representing older persons and mental health associations. They called for more joint thinking and budgetary integration between occupational safety and health, employment and health policies at national and European level.
