Managing Dangerous Substances in the Workplace
IOSH and the Health & Safety Authority are collaborating to support the EU-OSHA campaign “Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances”. The aim of this seminar is to raise awareness of the risks posed by dangerous substances in the workplace.
Michelle McDermott, Health and Safety Authority Inspector with the Chemicals and Prevention Division, will address the Chemical Agents Regulation, 2001 & 2015 and cover the specific requirements necessary to identify the hazards associated with dangerous substances and how to complete a risk assessment and to implement controls. This presentation will include examples of Safety Data Sheets, labels and typical risk assessments, illustrating the common gaps seen in meeting the legal requirements and how to fulfil the requirements of the legislation in a practical and useful manner.
Some dangerous substances are known carcinogens. Taking account of this, Michelle’s presentation will be followed by James Quinn, Vice President of IOSH, speaking on IOSH’s “No time to lose” campaign which is focused on ‘working together to beat occupational cancer’.
Registration and networking will commence at 18:00pm at the Royal College of Surgeons, 123 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, followed by the seminar from 18:45pm to 20:00pm. For further information see the IOSH website at https://www.iosh.co.uk/irelandbranch.
