Croatia – Occupational hazards and musculoskeletal disorders

Work-related MSDs are one of the most common causes of disability and sick leave and are among the most commonly recognised occupational diseases in Europe. To assess the situation in Croatia, the national focal point is organising a webinar with a number of occupational safety and health experts.

Following an introduction to the Healthy Workplaces Lighten the Load campaign, speakers focus on occupational diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including occupational stress and osteoporosis. Experts then discuss biological hazards as causes of occupational diseases in healthcare workers before the focus shifts to Covid-19.

Recommendations for employers on the prevention of Covid-19 are presented along with recommendations for preventing skin conditions related to the increased use of skin irritants – such as sanitising hand gels – used to prevent Covid-19 infections.

Some 100 people are participating in the online webinar, including representatives from the national focal point and experts from the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Medicine, the Croatian Institute of Public Health and the University of Zagreb.

  • Ana Akrap, Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy
  • Azra Huršidić Radulović, Occupational medical physician
