Portugal - Delphi Good Practice Exchange Meeting
Official campaign partner Delphi Technologies hosts a two-day Good Practice Exchange event at their factory in Seixal, Portugal. The event features a plant tour and review of the safety processes at the plant, along with discussions and presentations relating to the Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances campaign.
Following the plant tour and a discussion on Delphi’s Healthy Workplace campaign initiatives, Emilia Telo, National Focal Point Manager from the Portuguese Autoridade para as Condiçôes do Trabalho (ACT) presents the campaign activities organised in the country. EU-OSHA project manager Annick Starren then gives a presentation on the agency’s project on work-related vehicle risks and showcases VeSafe, a vehicle safety e-guide that provides good practices as well as an overview of relevant regulations and information to reduce the accident rate at work. Day one ends with a presentation by official campaign partner by Groupe PSA on communicating on chemicals to employees.
Day two starts with presentations of other official campaign partner initiatives, including ZF Friedrichshafen AG on skin protection, which focuses on employee exposure to chemicals and mechanical risks. The company ran a Skin Protection day in June 2018 to inform workers about the risks relating to skin diseases, the preventive steps to take and how to handle/report occupational skin diseases. The presentation also underlines the importance of appropriate personal protective equipment and hand care measures.
Further presentations are about a dust monitoring programme on Silica by IMA-Europe; on the formulation of chemical mixtures by Eiffage Infrastructures; and on the safe handling of solvents by the European Solvents Industry Group (ESIG) ,a CEFIC sector group.
Finally, a steering group meeting prepares the ground for future events, including the next Good Practice Exchange Event to be held in Brussels in March 2019; and EU-OSHA’s 25 year anniversary, which takes place in Bilbao in May 2019.
