The “EndStress.EU” initiative is calling for EU legislation against work-related psychosocial risks

Since the launch of the “EndStress.EU” initiative, the partners of the “Healthy Workplaces: Lighten the Load 2020-22”- EUROCADRES, in cooperation with the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), have been advocating for a new directive, which would make sure that workers all over the EU are protected from work-related stress and psychosocial risks.

According to EUROCADRES, musculoskeletal disorders have been one of the outcomes of the current stress epidemic faced by many European countries. Similarly highlighted by the Healthy Workplaces Campaign, psychosocial factors, such as excessive workload and high work intensity, may increase workers' stress levels, in turn, affecting muscular tension and physical pain.

In their quest to raise awareness about and address the issue of work-related psychosocial risks, EUROCADRES have published an informative video, which points out that, in the EU, 9 out of 10 workers are stressed by their work and 1 out of 4 workers believe that their health is at risk, with the coronavirus pandemic having exacerbated the situation.

The data and sources, including that of EU-OSHA’s, collected by EUROCADRES for the “EndStress.EU” initiative shows a real sense of urgency to the issue. To that end, the European Parliament has recently reached a consensus, to urge the European Commission to legislate against work-related psychosocial risks.
