The project ‘Safer and healthier work at any age’ explores demographic trends, challenges, and existing strategies and policies for safe and healthy ageing at work. The findings are now available online and can be easily accessed through a user-friendly, interactive visualisation tool.

By 2040, almost 27 % of the EU’s population is expected to be over the age of 65 (Eurostat 2014). This has serious implications for workers, employers and society as a whole. To Be a Teacher (Zwischen den Stühlen), directed by Jakob Schmidt of Germany, has won this year’s Healthy Workplaces Film Award. The award, supported by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), is presented for the best film on a subject related to work at the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (DOK Leipzig). The film highlights the challenging working conditions of young teachers.

The 2016 European Week for Safety and Health at Work - 24 to 28 October - a key part of the Healthy Workplaces for All Ages Campaign, starts today. In light of an ageing population and declining demographics, it is vital to create safe and healthy conditions for all workers throughout working life. Doing so ensures the...See more

Today in Brussels, the European Commission and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) in cooperation with the Netherlands EU Presidency launched a two-year Europe-wide campaign: Healthy Workplaces for All Ages. Focusing on sustainable work and workplace safety and health in the context of the ageing workforce, the campaign provides a timely reminder that the younger workers of today are the older workers of tomorrow.

The campaign focuses on Europe’s enterprises (both private and public) and the need to promote sustainable work and healthy ageing from the beginning of working life. By doing so, they will be protecting their workers’ health up to and beyond retirement age and their organisations’ productivity. Commissioner Thyssen highlighted the timeliness of...See more
