Dangerous substances under discussion at the 20th congress of the International Ergonomics Association on ‘Creativity in practice’

This 5-day global and multidisciplinary event gives participants the opportunity to attend a wide-range of plenary sessions, workshops and sessions focused on good practices around the world in the field of ergonomics and human factors.

Organised by EU-OSHA’s official campaign partner the Federation of the European Ergonomic Societies (FEES), the congress brings together researchers, practitioners and experts from over seventy different countries.

Gyula Szabó from FEES introduces the European Month of Ergonomics for which the organisation has produced a communication package, including a downloadable power point presentation. FEES has dedicated the 2018-19 European Month of Ergonomics to identifying, elaborating and demonstrating how the ergonomic profession can contribute to the healthy and safe handling of hazardous substances.

One seminar focuses on ‘Ergonomist to Manage Dangerous Substances Better’, during which Maurizio Curtarelli, Project Manager at EU-OSHA’s Prevention and Research Unit, gives an overview of past campaigns, the current Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances campaign as well as the upcoming 2020-22 campaign on the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Through its communication and promotion activities, FEES is calling on educational institutions to initiate research and development programmes, in particular student projects, master thesis’ and PhD works to produce high-quality ergonomic solutions for the management of hazardous substances, and to submit these result to the Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards.
