As employers, we are committed to protecting employees in commerce companies from health and safety risks at the workplace, including stress and psychosocial risks such as third-party violence. We are convinced that good safety and health performance helps business competitiveness and contributes to reduce absenteeism. We are of the opinion that an efficient social dialogue at all levels, including the European sectoral one. It is for this reason that we are now implementing a joint project entitled How can the EU social partners for commerce contribute to improve Health and Safety at workplace in their sector through an efficient social dialogue?” which will be aimed to deepen the chapter of their work programme dedicated to health and safety and in particular also on stress at work (work-related stress including absenteeism, turn over and physical stress) andpsychosocial risks. including third party violence and mental health risks)
Mission Statement: 
EuroCommerce represents the retail, wholesale and international trade sectors in Europe. Its membership includes commerce federations and companies in 31 European countries.
Commerce plays a unique role in the European economy, acting as the link between manufacturers and the nearly 500 million consumers across Europe over a billion times a day. It is a dynamic and labour-intensive sector, generating 11% of the EU’s GDP. One company out of three in Europe is active in the commerce sector. Over 99% of the 5.5 million companies in commerce are small and medium-sized enterprises. It also includes some of Europe’s most successful companies. The sector is a major source of employment creation: 29 million Europeans work in commerce, which is one of the few remaining job-creating activities in Europe. It also supports millions of dependent jobs throughout the supply chain from small local suppliers to international businesses.
EuroCommerce is also the recognized sectoral social partner representing employers.
Our campaign pledge: 
We will contribute to the success of this campaign both through internal communication aimed to encourage our members to take part to the campaign themselves and through the social dialogue we have with the trade unions. As stated in our recently revised guidelines, commerce employs a large number of ageing workers, often with a long work history in this sector. Their professional experience constitutes an asset, which should not be neglected. Sharing experience between generations adds value to the quality of work and to job satisfaction and will support knowledge transfer and the preservation of the corporate culture and values. Structural and technological change is particularly important in commerce, which must react rapidly to changing consumer demands, as well as to both internal and external competition. Major business benefits may also be derived, by reflecting the customer base and understanding customer needs. Workers on their side expect good working conditions along their working life. So, it is particularly important for companies and for the social partners to consider how these changes will impact upon all staff . 7.\tIn many cases, modern technologies and ergonomics can improve productivity, while promoting quality of work and mitigating potential physical problems caused by age. Therefore, whenever possible age should be taken in consideration when designing the job and the organization of the work, adapting them to the different phases of a working life. Cooperation with the European Agency for occupational Health and Safety in the framework of their forthcoming campaign on”Healthy workplaces for all ages” can be a good way forward. Support of technologies could also help preserving the physical condition of employees and allow them to have longer careers.
