European Medical organisations call for protection of healthcare professionals
Healthcare workers have been on the front line in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and highly exposed to suffer from all types of physical, emotional and psychological violence against them.

In 2021 the World Health Organisation celebrates the International Year of Health and Care Workers. Within this frame, European Medical organisations, including official campaign partner The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), marked the 2nd European Awareness Day on Violence against Doctors and other Health Professionals and committed themselves to addressing key contributing factors, including exhaustion and burnout.
They urged European governments to reconsider how healthcare systems value the wellbeing of healthcare professionals, patients and the community of employees who work with them. They also called on governments and health authorities to provide all healthcare staff with a safe and healthy working environment including adequate mechanisms to prevent any type of violence.
